Are Genghis Khan and Chingiz Khan one and the same?
nicole asked:
In my Islamic Civilization class my professor was talking about "Chingiz Khan" (that is how he spelled it on the board). Is this the same person as Genghis Khan? I did a Google search and got results for both names when I searched the Chingiz name, but sometimes Google gives me things I am not really looking for, so I was curious if anyone knew.

yes, they are one and the same. Genghis Khan is sometimes spelled Chinggis or Chingiz and also has some other derivatives. But both spellings pertain to the founder of the Mongol empire, the largest contiguous empire in history.
Yes, It's the same person. Genghis also spelled Ching-gis, Chingis, Jenghiz, or Jinghis, original name was Temüjin, also spelled Temuchin.
Temujin's, better known here in the west as Genghis Khan, more famous name is not pronounced the way we spell it. Genghis is a little more properly pronounced more like this spelling: Chinggis. The Islamic spelling looks more like the more proper pronounciation.
