Yes. Rape was quite popular with the hordes, and so his seed was widely spread.

Statistically, pretty good. There was a study done that showed that if you track the decedents of a given population (say humans alive in the late twelfth century, when GK was around) for about 20 generations, about 80% of the original population is an ancestor of *everyone* in the population 20 generations later.

(The remaining 20% is an ancestor of *no one* in the population 20 generations later. Counterintuitively, there are very people people who are an ancestor of only part of the population 20 generations out).

We can probably assume that GK was sufficiently prolific that he is in the 80% that is an ancestor of everyone.

Of course in the real world people don't mate at random, with there being geographic and cultural barriers and all, but if you have reason to believe you have ancestry in the area, then it is very probably the case.

I saw a study on TV that said that he passed on quite a legacy. Quite a number of Central Asians carry his bloodline.

Consider that Genghis must have had a large harem. If his descendants were not prone to excessive internecine conflict, they would have led successful lives, thus having large harems or at least large families themselves. Their success would in turn crowd out any competition.

The same question was asked a month ago. Here's the answer:

First you'd have to find a confirmed sample of Genghis Khan's DNA. As his tomb is still hidden, it's doubtful there is some.

Given, he left offspring and they have descendants. Just deciding which have the most "pure" DNA is the question.

Perhaps a better question is "Why?" The Powhatan tribe in Virgina is the one Pocahontas belonged to. Their website (see below) has an FAQ for those that feel they are related to Pocahontas. Starting in 1600 and ending in 1950, they have 15 generations (25 years each) A person born in 1950 would have a 1/16384 relationship to Pocahontas. Genghis Khan died in 1227. That means 41 generations have passed. The amount of genetic material inherited from Genghis Khan would be minimal. At 20 generations it would be 1/542,288 of his DNA (That's when I gave up)

Put it this way, Julius Caesar was murdered some 2,000 years ago. His last breath has spread so far that we all inhale some of it each time we breath. That's much the case with Genghis khan. There's lots and lots of people that have a bit of his DNA

I can see how someone could consider themselves descendant from his coallition of tribes, but for someone to be directly descended from Genghis khan would be very rare…you're talking about one man out of a million even in his time…You're also talking about a culture that would have went to great lengths to irradicate Timajin's heirs when ascending to power…
Alot of people like to claim ancestry to important people in the past, but in most cases I would say that it's just wishful thinking.
