Then why don't you? Mongolia is a pretty free and open place, like one big campsite where you can explore and pitch your tent pretty much anywhere. I don't how easy it is to buy a horse in Mongolia but I'm sure you could hire a 4×4 in Ulaan Baatar and spend a few weeks exploring.
