Is Mongolian BBQ actually from Mongolia?

Mogolian BBQ is not Mongolian. It is from Taiwan . . . it was started in the mid-20th century and the Mongolian aspect was merely a marketing gimmick that never died.
This is similar to the "Japanese steakhouse" phonomenon that was started in the United States. Many people wrongly attribute the concept of having the chef cook Japanese food at your table with Japan, but this was a marketing gimmick started orginally by the Benihana chain the the United States.
