The Mongolian empire was the largest contiguous empire ever achieved in human history, which was impressive for the period of time in which it existed (Middle Ages). It didn't last long, however as a unified empire as it was proclaimed in 1206 and by the end of the century, it was already splintering.
It also didn't achieve many notable cultural achievements that other empires achieved. The Mongols were noted for conquering a territory and basically decimating the area rather than assimilating it into its society or building it up.
The British Empire didn't arise until later, but was actually slightly larger than the Mongolian empire. The British Empire lasted longer than the Mongolian empire. Also, regardless of your opinion of imperialism in general, most of the societies and economies that outlasted the empire continue to be stable (i.e. the United States, Canada, Australia, South Africa, India, etc). These nations have clearly been affected on a variety of levels by their time under the British crown include their laws, economies, education systems, etc, which is not especially true of the nations that were under Mongolian control.
