Need to know how many people know about belly dancing?
eladitsa1 asked:
Greece has become one of his dances including belly dancing to be one of them. Before the Arabs conquered and are influenced by the Greeks, the Romans also used the similar music and so did Egypt. Alexander the Great brought it even in India and Persia, but in the interests of the god? was something like Turkey. Turkey has nothing to do with Greece or the Middle East. ? and came from Mongolia? originated from China. Rape and other Middle East countries, Eastern Orthodox, mixed his people stealing and massacre everything in place and you dare say its his own?. If you even listen to his language and music vederete as it sounds Chinese. Some songs even sounded a little like Korean.

What is your point?
My dear Elladitsa,
Belly dancing is a very wide spread dance around the eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East, including India.
Its origin its not yet fully determined!
There are various theories but none is proven!
Here are the most important ones:
a) Descended from dances in early Egypt (not very widely accepted explanation)
b) Descended from religious dances ancient Greek Priestesses once practiced. ( a very widely spread explanation)
The ancient Greek women used to dance it for worshiping Aphrodite (Venus). There must have been Belly dance also through the Greek medieval times. At that time of the Byzantine Imperia the Greeks had strong cultural exchange with the Arabs and other Middle-East population.
c) Had been a part of traditional birthing practices in the region(s) of origin,
d) Had spread from the migrations of the Roma (gypsies) people and related groups. (This is probably the best explanation in my opinion although I believe that ancient influence mast exist probably from regions including Greece, Egypt, Mesopotamia and Arabia))
(What is (probably) a Greek dance is the Greek Tsifteteli which is completely different from the Turkish version which is called also Chiftetelli. Are you sure that you are not confusing Belly Dancing with Tsifteteli.?)
(please read the bellow answer!!! Admire the culture of that person!!!)
