I often advise people to read the Gormenghast Trilogy. Normally i do this in the full knowledge that they probably wont bother, but after what you have said, i implore you; please, please for your own sake read it.
You will love it.
Ack… I am almost distraught in the fact that i cant express with this keyboard and this computer how deeply i love that book, and how heavily i advise you to read it. If you think you have a newfound love of literature now, once you finish those books you will feel like you have transcended - the use of language is so incredible. I have to go now - i have to go read some of my favourite passages again.
It is by Mervyne Peake, by the way.
Edit: I am truly happy to hear that :D. I have returned to give you this quote from C.S.Lewis, that i discovered while i was googling him just now. I think it sums up beautifully what i am trying to say;
"[Peake's books] are actual additions to life; they give, like certain rare dreams, sensations we never had before, and enlarge our conception of the range of possible experience." — C. S. Lewis
Enjoy :).
