Should I let my 6 year olds start horse riding?
Mommy of 4, and 1 on the way! asked:
They both do swimming on Saturday mornings, one does gymnastics on Thursdays and the other does ballet on Wednesdays.
They are both desperate to start horse riding lessons on Saturday afternoons.
I know it is expensive, but we can afford it.

As long as they are pretty calm kids and good at listening to directions, then i think they'd be fine to start lessons.
My daughter (also 6) would love to take riding lessons, but she is quite hyperactive and i don't trust that she wouldn't run up and spook the horse and get kicked or something.
Sure,if that's what they want. They have a lot of other classes so don't overwork them.
Yes you should, but their are classes for that kids that want to do that sort of thing, the most important thing is if the kids are eager to learn how to ride horses on saturday afternoons. than it would be an opportunity for them to do that i mean it should be exciting to do that.
My son who will be 6 in a couple of weeks will be starting riding lessons next month. Just make them wear a riding helmet and please let them try english and western riding, some kids are terrible in an english saddle and do great in western or vise versa.
discuss this with the parents and child who will be affected -not Yahoo.
If you can afford it I think its a great idea. It makes for a busy schedule for 6 year olds, but if they can handel it it will just help them prepare for life! Its amazing how much responsibility, discipline, and especially patience horses can teach children. I think that its one of the "extra curriculars" that kids get the most out of!
I think that is okay.
I would check out the place and the instructor first, though.
Yes you should put them into this kind of lesson. But I would take them out of another class - so not to overload them. Six year olde need time to play and be kids even while taking lessons in different things.
I have a 6 yr old, who I am teaching to ride at home with our horses, and there is times when she does not listen so well to me, an instructor would be better for her. Just a word of advice if they get into riding it can and will get expensive -and the horse is the cheep part (sounds odd I know, but there is lot more to riding that just lessons on a horse-but it does teach the girls to care for a very loving animal - which is good too.). Just be sure they are taught to be safe and careful around these very large animals.
Yes go for it, why not.
my daughter is 5, we are trying to find a good stables. She did start when she was 4 but the place we took her was not good her 1st session she ever had they took her out on a busy road.
