What to expect on your first horse riding lesson?
Lo asked:
I am 13 years old and going to go to my first riding lesson on Saturday. I was just wondering what to expect to be learning and doing. I am taking this lesson because to get into their horse camp you have to take one lesson with them. I am suppose to come early and tack up (i thinks that's what you call putting the saddle on.) and stay late to clean the horse. What should I expect and will they tell me how to do this stuff?

your thighs are gonna be soreee!!! but horseback riding is so much fun. and yes its called tacking up. and if theyre expecting you to be a beginner then i would assume that yes they would help you with everything.
If you're a beginner and have never been around horses they will usually show you what to do, and then have you try it. Usually they'll have you come, meet the horse, show you how to groom him/her and then they'll most likely lead you around so that you have a feel for the horse.
Unfortunately I can't say anything for sure because I don't know how they like to do things. They might expect you to know how to deal with a horse in order to enter their camp, or they might ease you into the saddle. Just be prepared, and LET THEM KNOW that you are a beginner. And, never be afraid to tell your instructor if you are not comfortable doing something. Horses are big animals that can sense your fear. They feed off of your confidence, so being on a horse when you're nervous can be a dangerous situation.
I personally don't think that the one lesson evaluation is a great thing. It's a good thing to take it slow, and not even ride on your own completely the first time. But they may just want you to come and see how you feel with riding.
Good luck, and have fun! Bonding and being around horses is one of the things in the world that comes so very close to magic.
All right I understand what your going though. I'm 10 years old. My first time was really easy I had the same problem as you do. Yes you will probably be doing track up. Just tell them your new and they should help you out. Good luck!
