Didn't Asians use to make women wrap up their feet really tight so that they would stay small and delicate? I don't they do it anymore but I remember hearing about it when I was a kid.
I heard that it China is a baby girl is born with Jade Green eyes (Jade Green is a special colour in the Chinise tradition) then they are considered very rare and beautiful.
Look to the geshia for Japan's traditional beauty. they like women w/ pale skin and small mouths and the court ladies would blacken their teeth w/ coal because is was considered vulgar to show your teeth.
China liked women w/ small feet and they would begin binding young girls' feet at about age 3 or 4. This process crushed the foot and crippled the woman but she was considered beautiful because she had dainty feet shaped like a lotus blossom.
In response to Nesquick,
foot-binding was for the Chinese for women starting around the late 900's C.E. (Sung Dynasty) to 1949.
It started with noblewoman first, then spread to the rest of society. Peasant women had looser bounds because having it tightly bound meant that yes, shorter feet, but also no ability to walk, and the peasant women had to work in fields, so they need some ability to move.
This was done to further decrease the role of women, I mean, how much can a woman actually do when she can't even move across a room?
3 inches was ideal for the foot, it was called a lily foot
Matchmakers looked at the girls feet first.
(According to the readings my teacher provided, Chinese men back then were actually turned on by the pus-filled sored feet of the women in addition to their their smaller size)

Korea had similar beauty standards to Japan.
