Until the 1973 the best warriors probably belonged to the IDF (Israeli Defense Forces) because in ever war they fought in they were heavily out numbered and usually out gunned as well. There is no country that can boast a longer period of time 1948-1973 in which every military opponent they had both on paper and in actual fighting units were as lopsided against them and still would come out victorious. It is because of this one of the weakest of all the nations in the world in status of actual solders it can place on the field is seen as one of the most powerful regional powers in the world.
Good Luck!!!
Rome, of course. The Roman Empire produced the smartest, greatest and best equipped army in centuries and lasted much longer than any of these "modern" armies with their technological know-how. Take-away their lap-tops and this war in Iraq will end immediately!
I'm going to have to go with the Genghis Khan and the mongols. Here's why: Temüjin(Genghis Khan) eliminated and united many of the nomadic tribes of north East Asia and Central Asia under a social identity as the "Mongols." Genghis Khan is widely cited as producing a highly efficient army with remarkable discipline, organization, toughness, dedication, loyalty and military intelligence, in comparison to their enemies. The Mongol armies were one of the most feared and militarily ruthless forces ever to take the field of battle. Operating in massive sweeps, extending over dozens of miles, the Mongol army combined shock, mobility and firepower unmatched in land warfare until the modern age. Originally consisting of purely cavalry units, the Mongols learned and absorbed the war technology and strategies of the empires and kingdoms they invaded and conquered. Most notable contribution in their military campaigns was the absorption of Chinese siege warfare and engineers; prior to this the Mongols lacked skills to take walled cities. The Mongol cavalry was more used to the open-space steppe warfare. With the introduction of siege warfare and fighting ships from both China and Korea, the Mongol capability was enhanced greatly. The Mongol Empire ended up ruling, or at least briefly conquering, large parts of modern day China, Mongolia, Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Iraq, Iran, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Moldova, and Kuwait.
The most recognized warriors were without a doubt the Spartans who held the pass at Thermopalae against thousands of persians
I'd also have to say the Spartans, they defended aginst the Persians for quite a while for there very small numbers but Romce beat because they have more men and there leigons, and Isreal got alot of there wepons from the U.S. while the Spartans did not get much help.
The Germans took almost all europe in a couple of years.
They were the first to use infantry, combined with armor supported by fighters and bombers, THis was the opposite of the previous world war that was fought with trenches. And the tactic of fast defeat BlitzKrieg (1939)
The Russians also in ww2 they were brave enough to attack the germans in mass wave against machine guns, artillery. And the leaders were brave enough to implement this tactic.
This is an example of using numbers as your advantage.
Victory was succeeded but the end result is 25 million russian
died.
The vietcong - inspite of heavy losses , they were smart enough of using their terrain to their advantage and the proper tactics (guerilla). And won in the end.
Japan (samurai). Because of their war technique and the strength of the individuals. The bravery and honor may help a lot in terms of morale and mental strenght of troops.
