If the American Government wants to get rid of the Al-Qaeda (which is apparently half the reason they are in Afghanistan), they've got a few things to do, all of which aren't easy and will take some time:
1. Secure the cooperation of the Afghan and Pakistani governments.
2. Treat the citizens of both countries as if they are civilians unless solid proof emerges that they are terrorists (innocent until proven guilty is apparently the way Western countries treat people, after all).
3. Working with the co-operation with the new allies, relentlessly attack known Al-Qaeda hideouts.
The alternative is the UN will have to quarantine off Afghanistan and parts of Pakistan, no one gets in or out, and that's going to be a lot harder to win public and political support for.

I think that it could be. We are on the way down, and everything we are doing will die in futility. We our drowning in our own misery that was self created. Look at our national debt…printing dollars like there is no tomorrow, and we are still spending money we don't have on useless military operations over there. It's all a house of cards. China owns us now, whether we all like it or not. It's interesting how a "communist" country like China, is completely, whooping our asses at our own "capitalist" game. They are just sitting back, getting richer and laughing at us while we keep shooting ourselves in the foot and keep digging that hole deeper. As a country, we deserve what is coming our way, as we need to pay for our own arrogance, greed, and stupidity. The day of reckoning will come soon, and we will wind up having to get used to being "has-beens" in the global arena. Better start having your kids speak Mandarin Chinese…it will be to their benefit.

better for them just give up and take out their forces back
